Why palm oil farms in Ghana?

The oil palm industry has been selected by the Government of Ghana as one of the key strategic pillars of agricultural and industrial growth. Like many other commodities palm oil benefits of growth and development in Asia, Latin America and other emerging markets. This rapid growth in consumption of fats and oils is estimated to increase with more than 3% over the next two decades. That means 60 million tons of additional production, almost half more than today. For Ghana an opportunity. This will directly affect the economic growth and employment. The recent growth spurt in Ghana's palm oil plantations illustrates the potential. In March 2011 Ghana approved a national interpretation of RSPO principles and criteria for sustainable palm oil as the first African country to do so. In the long term palm oil is expected to generate an export revenue of US$ 1.6 billion annually and will employ about 1.2 million people.

Dr. Kwame Osafredu Asubonteng: "Agriculture is important for employment and wealth worldwide".
