The Ekumfi Ekrawfo project

Agricultural development for a future 

APD has an ambitious development plan which consists of converting unprocessed land into integrated arable farm land. The project will consist of two vehicles: 1,000 hectares of inter-cropped oil palm and a bio-farm, uniting livestock with cash crop cultivation in a symbiotic relationship.
Nearly all products will be sold in the local market and de neighbouring countries and reinforce teh regions food security, while most of the personnel will be gained from the village itself. The start of the agricultural activities in this territory will enable local people to have a day time job and to earn a fair wage.

Village overview

The village of Ekumfi Ekrawfo sits in the Central region of Ghana, an hour and half west of Accra the capital city. The Mfantsiman East district is divided into six village centres, with Ekumfi-Ekrawfo as the central village. Due to heavy rain the region is extremely fertile. Currently, the only activities within the village is small scale subsistence farming and the area has fallen victim to “rural flight”, where the young are increasingly moving to the city to find work, and become a statistic of Ghana’s record 65% youth unemployment record.

With a unique partnership with the traditional “Chief” of the village and other key stakeholders, APD plans to invest a substantial amount of the profit from the agriculture activities into the economic and social development of the village. The Ekumfi Ekrawfo project is the official pilot project of APD in the central region and will be guided by the same principles of development that APD uses in all projects.

Ekumfi Ekrawfo is a village with about 1.800 inhabitants. The village is localized in the Mfantsiman Eadt District in Central Region, which is indicated in light green on the map below. On the rights side a weather indicator for Accra, Capital of Ghana, about 100 km east of Ekumfi Ekrawfo.
